Video: Let’s Talk About Size

Lets Talk about Size – This amazing video gives you a good idea of the sheer scale of the universe in which we live, and how small Earth really is in comparison. Take a tour through known objects in the solar system, starting with our moon and working your way up the largest star ever discoveredThis video is from the ScienceMagazine Youtube Page. I would strongly advise you to go and check out some of their other videos. Top Image Artist impression of a small planet and star – Credit:

Celestial Trio on September 2010

The celestial trio (Venus, Mars, Spica – brightest star in constellation Virgo) is visible a few minutes after sunset to early evening on Monday (Aug 30.) and Tuesday (Aug. 31) in the Philippines. Jupiter? Again?

... Yes, it seems Jupiter got hit again, This is the third time in about a year the big planet has been hit by a significant impact. The video below captures the fireball in a quite a few frames. It may not seem like much in the video, but that fireball is probably hundreds of miles in diameter, possibly much larger. The impact occurred about 18:22UT on August 20th. And yet again it was amateur astronomers who caught the impact. Indeed all of the recent events were observed by amateurs. This

Antiquity

... objects, a couple of exoplanets managed to pick up nicknames back when there were only a handful known. One such object was PSR B1620-26 b, a gas giant in orbit around two dead stars, which acquired the rather apt nickname of Methuselah. This particular planet seems quite deserving of having a name, though. It's fascinating in a lot
