Cheap binoculars

This is just a heads up for people in the UK. Via a friend I have discovered that the LIDL chain of supermarkets is currently selling Bresser (part of Meade) 10x50 binoculars for 10 of your Earth pounds. For only £10 they are really good and worth getting (I've just bought a pair) but I suspect they may sell out pretty quickly.

Comments: Cheap binoculars

Aldi is a good shout...I always keep my eye open because sometimes you get some great accessories etc for a very reasonable price. Im not sure if they do makes such as Bresser but you never know. I think they have specials on a thursday and sunday which are advertised in their 'specials' magazine

Wow, makes me wish I lived in the UK! I know this post is pretty old, but I'm actually going to be in the UK soon, so maybe this deal is still around...anyway, thanks for the heads up.

The good news is that Lidl are still doing these, now at 15gbp. Having seen this post this morning I thought it was worth a long shot, and our local branch had 8 in. The bad news is that they appear to be seconds/returns. The particular pair I bought had vertical misalignment between left/right. I had to disassemble the rear, correctly seat one of the prisms, and then adjust it (using a screw that is hidden under the rubber on the outside) before the binoculars were usable. But for 20 minutes work, they're well worth the money. The optics are edge to edge sharp. The focusing and dioptre adjustment are not the most refined, but nothing I can't live with. Now I just need a clear night!

Thanks for posting.

gravatarBen, a relative spotted them at their local LIDL this morning and bought a pair too. Thanks for the heads-up on possible problems.
