Campaign against light pollution in the North-West
The sky is a site of special scientific interest and an area of outstanding natural beauty. A view of the stars is essential for inspiring the next generation of scientists. Enable future generations to see the Milky Way. Support the campaign.
This is the unofficial homepage for the University of Manchester's Astronomy Club. Observing sessions are held every Monday night (during term time) on the roof of the Department of Physics and Astronomy. If you are at the University of Manchester you can subscribe to the mailing list.
There isn't much here at the moment so why not have a look at the astronomy blog or see Stuart's pictures from his trip to the South African Astronomical Observatory.
We founded the campaign against light pollution in the North-West (of the UK) on BBC ICAN. We are currently hoping that Alstom, a company that runs the Longsight railway depot, will adjust its floodlights so that they don't cause so much glare over East Manchester.
Light pollution over East Manchester - notice the large floodlights about 1.5 miles away. Taken by Megan Argo
